Top 5 (books of 2022) Tuesday

Admittedly I did want to read 100 books this year (2022 as I started writing this before the start of 2023) but I think around October or so I realised I wasn’t going to hit that mark. So I moved it down to 75 and then I read more than that! Here’s… possibly five of the best books I read this year!

Thank you ever so so much to Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads for all of the Top 5 Tuesday prompts we’ve had this year! This is the last one for this year (even though I’m posting it in 2023 lol). Meeghan’s got the new prompts up for the first three months of 2023 up on her blog so go look! Her favourite books for 2022 can be found here (link to be added when she does)!

📚🚀📚

If This Gets Out by Sophie Gonzales and Cale Dietrich (GR/SG/My Review)- Okay like technically I read most of this in the last days of December but I finished it on the first (day of January) so I’m counting it! I loved this book and it was my first read for both of the authors so I’ll definitely be going to look at their backlists and keep an eye out for their upcoming books.

Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik (GR/SG/My Review) – I loved every minute reading this one because it was so intriguing and I loved seeing how the different storylines intersected with each other and how in-depth the plots were.

Reforged by Seth Haddon (GR/SG/My Review) – If I actually ranked these reads (which I DON’T because I don’t want to make them feel bad) this might be in the top 3. I had such a delight reading this. It’s exactly what I needed (I read this after Lightlark so… yeah). I can’t wait to see what other books Haddon has in store because I will read them all!

Last of the Talons by Sophie Kim (GR/SG/My Review) – I… started a lot of series last year and I hope to finish them or at least get far in them if they’re long series. But I’m glad that one of the books read was this one. I enjoyed it and will wait impatiently for the next one.

These Fleeting Shadows by Kate Alice Marshall (GR/SG/My Review) – I think I did sort of have a plan to read more of Kate Alice Marshall’s books and then I only ended up reading her new one. It worked out well because I really enjoyed it! Delightfully horror-filled, I listened to The Haunting of Hill House soundtrack while reading it and it just made me want to rewatch the series (that’ll be like the 6th time now I think 😂).

My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix (GR/SG) – Admittedly I did think my first Grady Hendrix book would’ve been The Southern’s Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires because… well vampires. But I picked My Best Friend up before watching the adaptation and I should never have watched the adaptation because it was terrible. I still need to write a book versus movie post because I was really annoyed by it all. All in all, I really enjoyed reading it and am looking forwards to whichever Hendrix book I’ll read next.

Little Thieves by Margaret Owen (GR/SG) – This would for sure be in the top 3 reads of last year because I devoured every single page of this. I’ll definitely reread it before the sequel comes out and uhh definitely get to that other Owen arc I have (and then read that series).

The Switch by Beth O’Leary (GR/SG) – 2022 was the year of me finding out that I can in fact read romance! Maybe this year will be trying to figure out what exactly in romance I like and don’t. But I really enjoyed this and The Flateshare (The No-Show was my third book from O’Leary and I was a bit underwhelmed by it).

The Starless Sea by Erin Morgernstern (GR/SG) – I bought this for my birthday last year and I should try to see if I can reread it this year and annotate it! This book easily sucked me in and I didn’t want it to end!

Under the Whispering Door by T.J. Klune (GR/SG) – This book goes in the slim pile of “books that have made me cry” with a special note saying that I SOBBED because I DID! If you want to sob, just read this book. There you go, that’s my entire review. But also this book was just absolutely stunning and amazing and so so heartbreakingly beautiful.
