Top 5 (anticipated books for July-Sep 2022) Tuesday

It’s a new month which means new Top 5 Tuesday prompts! Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads says it’s time to show some anticipated books that are coming out July to September! As always it’s just a couple because there’s so many out 😭😭

What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher (GR/SG) – I’ve only heard of this author this year but I think she writes the sort of books that I would love! And she does have a couple of books so I’ve got some choices ➡ When Alex Easton, a retired soldier, receives word that their childhood friend Madeline Usher is dying, they race to the ancestral home of the Ushers in the remote countryside of Ruritania.

What they find there is a nightmare of fungal growths and possessed wildlife, surrounding a dark, pulsing lake. Madeline sleepwalks and speaks in strange voices at night, and her brother Roderick is consumed with a mysterious malady of the nerves.

These Fleeting Shadows by Kate Alice Marshall (GR/SG) – I read Rules for Vanishing… Oh gosh 2019? And therefore I want everything Kate Alice Marshall has to offer. And I’m on a blog tour for this so I’m even more excited!! ➡ The Haunting of Hill House meets Knives Out in a bid for an inheritance that will leave Helen Vaughan either rich…or dead.

Kingdom of the Feared by Kerri Maniscalco (GR/SG) – SPOILERS FOR THE PREVIOUS BOOKS. I think I’ll just re-read the first two books because I’m reading this synopsis and I’ve big Gandalf energy (I have no memory of this)  and I don’t want to go into the third book not remembering a lot ➡ Two curses.

The Sunbearer Trials by Aiden Thomas (GR/SG) – I will read absolutely anything Aiden writes so I’m so so excited for this! ➡ Welcome to The Sunbearer Trials, where teen semidioses compete in a series of challenges with the highest of stakes, in this electric new Mexican-inspired fantasy from Aiden Thomas, the New York Times bestselling author of Cemetery Boys.

“Only the most powerful and honorable semidioses get chosen. I’m just a Jade. I’m not a real hero.”

As each new decade begins, the Sun’s power must be replenished so that Sol can keep traveling along the sky and keep the evil Obsidian gods at bay. But then, for the first time in over a century, Sol chooses a semidiós who isn’t a Gold. In fact, he chooses two: Xio, the 13-year-old child of Mala Suerte, god of bad luck, and…Teo. A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers (GR/SG) – This is coming out like next week and I’m so excited I might scream for 50 years ➡ After touring the rural areas of Panga, Sibling Dex (a Tea Monk of some renown) and Mosscap (a robot sent on a quest to determine what humanity really needs) turn their attention to the villages and cities of the little moon they call home.

They hope to find the answers they seek, while making new friends, learning new concepts, and experiencing the entropic nature of the universe.

Becky Chambers’s new series continues to ask: in a world where people have what they want, does having more even matter?

Once again I’m trying to balance backlist and new books and I’ve come to the conclusion that we need more time in the day/a whole extra day for reading 😭 I vote it’s inbetween Saturday and Sunday.
