What I Watched: January

Amazingly, I actually watched new/old movies last month! Well, an entire franchise so 😂 Anyway, let’s go see!

📚🚀📚

MUST-WATCHES

• Conquest of the Planet of the Apes 4 🐒IMDb/Letterboxd
  • Very good! I liked all the interesting analogies that the movies are making. Especially when this was made in America, there was a lot of racial issues. So in these movies there’s a lot of Man vs ape, which is better etc etc. There’s a lot of the lines that can be attributed towards racial issues.

• Planet of the Apes (1968) 4 🐵 IMDb/Letterboxd
  • I really love with old moves you get that grainy film and the sort of grainy-ness with their voices? Love that.
  • I’ve actually only watched the prequels and the apparently bad 2001 remake 😆 Which I really loved.
  • Quite interesting! Of course I already knew the big plot twist. But I definitely enjoyed getting to that point.

• No One Gets Out Alive 5 🏬🏢 IMDb/Letterboxd
  • It’s been AGES since I’ve watched a new movie hahaahaa (lie I watched the new Home Alone – absolutely awful?
  • But this was absolutely amazing!!! Definitely a favourite of mine!!
  • I loved how it weaved a story while creating the usual horror elements. Love the main character and how she’s not a typical horror movie protagonist because she just wants to be left alone. I loved it.
  • Shots, jumpscares, all so good!
  • I was, however, annoyed by the climax. Not ending, I liked that, I just felt that the climax didn’t get enough build-up to it.

REWATCHES

• Cats and Dogs 3 🐈🐕 IMDb/Letterboxd
  • APPARENTLY??? there’s a third movie??
  • There was this big surgence of animals being able to talk in action/adventure movies. Underdog, Good Boy etc. I loved Good Boy 😆 Cats and Dogs is just a weird movie.

• Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore 2 🐈🐕 IMDb/Letterboxd
  • This one is even weirder but also why is nearly always hairless cats as the baddies? And she’s not even a REAL Sphinx, she just fell into a vat of chemical and her fur burnt off!

• War For the Planet of the Apes 5 🐵 IMDb/Letterboxd
  • This is my favourite out of the prequel Trilogy. It’s so so good! It’s all about war and what comes of it, comes of greed.
  • And the music is so beautiful 🥺🥺

THE REST

• A Nun’s Curse 2 🔪 IMDb/Letterboxd
  • This flip flopped all over the place? I thought it was good until the climax and then it just failed a lot.
  • Also!! This came out in 2019/2020. Why are we still using the r-word? 😑
  • The one guy was cute. I liked him. The girl who played Ashley-Kae was decent
  • I don’t like how the movies ends. It’s very weird and doesn’t make much sense.

• Battle for the Planet of the Apes 3 🐒IMDb/Letterboxd
  • I’m sorry the Planet of the apes franchise is all over the place 😆
  • This was probably alongside Beneath the Planet of Apes movie in terms of it being really bad.

• Beneath the Planet of the Apes 2 🐵 IMDb/Letterboxd
• I… This one was so weird. Atomic bomb?? Telepathic humans?? Weird face masks? Just so weird 😆

• Blood Fest 3 🎪 IMDb/Letterboxd
  • It’s… Meh ok. I like that they had all the tropes in there but like everything was still annoying.
  • Like yes you’ve seen all the horror movies so why focus on the trope.
  • Predicted the plot twist a minute before it happened. Uhhh yeah people need therapy pls

• Monster In My Kas (Monster in my Closet) 4 🌃 YouTube
  • It’s quite short so it doesn’t have much of a plot.
  • It’s good! I guessed the plot twist.
  • Luckily it had English subs because while I would probably be able to follow all the Afrikaans dialogue, it takes a lot of effort 😆 processing and translating in my mind because I’m not actively using it every day.

SERIES

• Elves 4 🌳 IMDb
  • I FINALLY FINISHED A SERIES.
  • Yes, this is only 6 episodes long but I’m counting it as a win 😂
  • And I was meant to finish this over Christmas and… Didn’t but I finished it now!
  • I really liked this! Short (the episodes are half an hour each) but it’s enough to get you into the story and get to know the characters.
  • It’s not that scary. But it’s good.

Well, I’ve started a rewatch of 2 series (well actually I’m rewatching like 5 series) but you know how it goes. I need to get to some newish movies 😂 Tell me about what you watched last month!
