Top 5 (books I haven’t read yet) Tuesday

HAHAHAHAHAH well, THIS POST DEFINITELY won’t be limited to 5 books, that I can tell you! Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads is the one who thought this little nugget up! She includes Burn by Patrick Ness, among other books (another book I really need to read) in her post – where she actually keeps to 5 books (an amazing feat). Some people choose 5 books they haven’t read yet, and I’m the lucky one who chooses 13!

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller – Okay, so like… I KNOW what happens. I KNOW the spoilers. I KNOW a lot of the gorgeous quotes. I HAVE the actual book… and yet I can’t seem to bring myself to read it. It’s nothing to do with the angst factor, lol. I live for the angst.

Beyond the Black Door by A.M. Strickland – This published LAST YEAR and it’s up all my alleys and I keep meaning to read it. And of course, I decide to restart (watching) Gossip Girl instead of, you know, being good and dutiful or whatever. And did you see Strickland’s new book’s cover? It’s so gorgeous!!

The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness – I loved reading Release and I hope the love will only grow with this book. This one seems like it subverts the Chosen One trope? Or it follows someone who’s not the Chosen One? I also really like his covers.

You Asked for Perfect by Laura Silverman – Throwback to when I got the arc and I couldn’t WAIT to read it!! Yeah, I don’t know what else happened. I’m really loving the new focus on mental health in YA books (of course they were in older books, I’m not denying that, but now they’re subverting tropes and characters aren’t just stigmatized). Other young readers should definitely see that and understand that mental illnesses shouldn’t be stigmatized!

Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky by Kwame Mbalia – I haven’t read any of the Rick Riordan Presents imprint. I haven’t even finished the Trials of Apollo series 🤦🏻‍♀️ but I really want my first RRP book to be this one! The mythology in this one is West African mythology and I’m so excited to see that!

The Guinevere Deception by Kiersten White – Throwback to when I first heard about this and I was SO EXCITED and would pick it IMMEDIATELY and read it all THROUGH THE NIGHT. Yeah, of course that wouldn’t happen. Why would it happen?! I love this cover and it’s an Arthurian retelling, but with the focus being on Guinevere!

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas – I am so running behind on my need to read this. Every time I’m thinking, “Now’s the time, now’s the time”; I seem to either get into a reading slump or I’m reading like 4-6 books at a time so, lol. But it’s on the list!

Blanca & Roja by Anna-Marie McLemore – I need to read like, every book of McLemore’s, but this one and Dark and Deepest Red calls to me the most. Partially due to the covers (though all the books are gorgeous), but also because the synopses intrigue me the most. Maybe I’ll see if I can pick these up over the holidays and just take sit and absorb the stories (as I’e been told a lot about McLemore’s fantastic writing, and now I want to experience it).

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab – I’m so late for reading this, they’d probably announce the adaption and I’d be starting it the NIGHT before the movie/series comes out 😂😂 I do love seeing the different editions. And then clicking away before I could see the prices…

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir – I know everyone and their kettle have read this series and I know the acronym is aeita and that’s basically all I know of the series. Oh! and the two main characters, so that’s something else.

The Love Interest by Cale Dietrich – This book really looks like it’s a fanfiction?? So of course I’m all for that! And this book has spies in that, so there’s another bonus for you!

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera – So, I guess the reason why I haven’t picked this up… is because the title… scares me, I think. I mean!! Doesn’t it scare you if you’ve never read it?

13 is my lucky number, so I guess I subconsciously chose it? That or I just have so many books I need to read I just chose 13 so as to not stack all the books I haven’t read into the room that I’m in because otherwise I’ll drown in them….

No! Never mind! I’m signing off now! Which of the books on this list have you read and which do you highly recommend I read next? Give me those recommendations in the comments! Make me read!!

  1. I know a lot of people are going to give you grief for not having reading A Darker Shade of Magic yet but in my humble opinion, binge read the Ember quartet because the last book is out on December 1st and it’s amazing! 😍 It’s quite dark (didn’t expect that in YA) and Sabaa writes tension so well that I finished the first two books in one sitting each. If there’s one book/series that I would recommend from this list, it would be Ember. It’s also great for slumps because you’ll not feel like putting it down. Happy reading! 💖

    1. I saw that! I do love the Ember quartet’s covers. I think I should be able to pick up the first book at the end of the year 👀
I do like dark books and tons of tension!
Thanks! I’m hoping to read a lot these last two months and not get into a reading slump so that’s a good idea!

    1. 😁😁 I’m always having to defend my favourite number 13 and cat being black to people 😅 I think I need to pick up the first Ember book (probably at the end of November, though) so I could hopefully get to the fourth book in January somewhere.

Exactly! Like what do you mean you don’t feel joy when you see a black cat running across the street? I mean I love my baby so much 😅
