September and October Wrap-Up

I remember I would do a September Wrap-Up… and then I never did πŸ˜‚πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ. But here we are now, so no worries! It’s fine if I have two months in one!

I FINALLY got over my reading slump (it was a book I was reading at the moment but didn’t want to dnf it so I just had to sludge my way through. But I DID IT!

Books Read

I finished Middlewest by Skottie Young, and Blackbird by Sam Humphries. They’re both graphic novels as I’m getting mine read for mini-reviews – always a nice thing to do. Nothing to write home about, unfortunately. Both felt as if they just threw me into the middle of things and didn’t bother explaining anything. I did like the graphics, though, not enough to make me like the whole book.

The Silvered Serpents by Roshani Chokshi, aka my favourite sequel to one of my now favourite series. I loved it so so much and am now eagerly awaiting any news about the third book because I am now INVESTED in these characters and I hope in the 3rd book everyone just SITS down and EATS PEACEFULLY. Or SLEEPS PEACEFULLY. Just let them do ANYTHING PEACEFULLY.

I read A Golden Fury by Samantha Cohoe and I think I’m getting more into historical fiction? This was a fun read and didn’t require a lot of knowledge about physics or science, so that was great!

The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen was a cute and easy read with a different ending to the story like I thought it did?

Carrying on with the whole sea theme is Fable by Adrienne Young! I had like 5% of this read and then decided to restart it, hoping it would reinterest me. And, boy DID IT! I finished this in HUGE chunks and now I can’t wait to get the next one in my hands! I know it’s Wish For It on Netgalley right now so I’ll probably wait for it to like go to Request and just fingers crossed that I get approved or pluck up my courage and email them for an arc. Either way, scary option, but guess I’ll have to do it!

I loved Fable so much, it was this great exploration of the sea and the self and who you choose to be. Also, the found family trope! That I hope will be more in the second book (which is titled Namesake, which I like!).

And finally, Diamond City by Francesca Flores is (unfortunately) the victim here in that I spent like x amount of months reading… yeah. You can read my review to hear my thoughts on that.

Other News

I had my birthday in October!! I’m now 24 😭😭😭 I feel so old. We went away earlier in the month for my mom’s birthday – it’s the whale season in Hermanus (a coastal town in/near Cape Town – where we went) so we were hoping to see some whales… The only whales we saw were in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (which makes me crack up every time I think of that.).

But yeah. I got some clothes for my birthday and we ate out, so that’s always fun. I’ve decided to get an industrial piercing (that’s a long bar at the top of your ear)!!! So that’ll be my bday present to myself (which is something I always advocate – get presents from you, to you.)

I got 2 books! Jack of Hearts (and other Parts) by Lev A.C. Rosen and The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury. I’ve wanted to read Jack of Hearts for a while and now I have the physical copy! As for The Forbidden Wish, I’ve seen it here and there and it looks cool!

My sister and I have been playing Assassin’s Creed Odyssey like a fiend/fiendishly – just a LOT, okay? I was so excited because you can play as Kassandra, a Spartan mercenary who has an eagle and you can even buy a UNICORN skin for your horse. So now my horse SPARKLES and has a horn – he’s beautiful.

I’m absolutely loving the world and the quests. It fully immerses you in Ancient Greece and it’s just so fun to play and be apart of the franchise. I’ve played a bit of the other games, but I think Odyssey is my favourite (and then probably Origins once I play it more).

I suppose I can’t be mad at having a long post if I stuck to monthly wrap-up posts, now can I? Tell me all about what you’ve been up to these past few months. Any good books you’ve read or bad books you want to rant about? Got some posts you’re wanting to be read? Talk about all of them down below in the comments!

  1. Happy belated birthday! It may seem like you’re at the halfway point in life now, but I assure you that you still have LOTS of time ahead of you. So many bloggers have been talking about Assassin’s Creed lately, and I feel like I should perhaps get in on it. Maybe I should get the PS5 when it comes out. Anyway have a great November and thanks for sharing!

    1. Thanks Stuart! I always have to remind myself that there’s still time to do everything.
Assassin’s Creed is definitely one of my favourite game franchises. If I’m not playing it, I’m watching walkthroughs.
I definitely recommend it! It’s so full of history and amazing graphics and a lot of fun – I love hours of my day playing.
