APPARENTLY it’s August now. And my mind is blown. And also sad. But we WON’T focus on THAT – instead we’ll focus on books coming out in the next two months that I’m looking forward to! Because publishing doesn’t sleep. But somehow I do.
This post is just featuring books being published in August and September hahaha – I’ll post another one featuring October and November books I’m interested in later down the line. I did have them randomly sorted and then realised I couldn’t do that to my brain and sorted them by pub date (and for books on the same day, alphabetically by author). YES, I’m doing FINE, why are you asking?
Also this post decided to be utterly rude and mess up all its formatting, which meant I took a long time to fix it all 😐😥 I even tried going through the block editor but uhh it made everything absolutely worse 🙃🙃 And after all my long hours stuff still doesn’t look 100% 🙃🙃
The Good for Nothings by Danielle Banas – The cover of this is quirky and I LOVE IT. This book is literally ringing all of my bells and like great. HERE FOR IT. And the synopsis speaks of an object rumoured to give one IMMORTALITY?? And the little scraps of the characters we get through the synopsis are not enough, I need more.
OUT: August 4th
Set Fire to the Gods by Sara Raasch, Kristen Simmons – I mean the cover is what drew me in and then the first line mentions a gladiator and gods so like hello, I’m in for the long haul.
OUT: August 4th
Seven Devils by Laura Lam and Elizabeth May – This is a feministic space opera duology like hello, great great great. Also this is the cover of the arc I have, but the other cover is AMAZING (ok, did some digging – the cover I have, aka the one on the left, is the UK cover. The gorgeous cover is the US cover). This looks like such an interesting book and every time I look at the title, Florence and the Machine’s song just starts playing in my head (tbh I basically always have one of her songs in my head ahahha).
OUT: August 6th
Star Daughter by Shveta Thakrar – I burn, I pine, I perish FOR THE COVER. Like whomever drew this cover – please give them a raise and a nice, big office. If they work from home, the ability to attend meetings in pjs.
But seriously, The main character (Sheetal) is the daughter of a STAR and she has to go on a QUEST – which I’m all about. I LOVE quests!! This also includes some Hindu mythology, and I do love to read about different mythologies.
I am so so amped to read this! I have a hold on this so I’ll definitely want to read it straight away.
OUT: August 11th
Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles – you know, normally, I’m not all that into circuses, but I might be willing to look past that for this. Magicians in a circus! Also it’s a retelling?? And a high fantasy at that?!?
OUT: August 25th
Kind of a Big Deal by Shannon Hale – This cover is just so soft and really really pretty?? It feels like it’s this gorgeous coming-of-age movie (but without being… mediocre. When I say this I mean Lady Bird…). The mc is a reader!!! And also trying to deal not being famous anymore – this sounds like a really interesting read and AGAIN the cover.
A lot of the reviews aren’t very positive for this book so I’ll go into this knowing that, but still wanting to read it.
OUT: August 25th
Cemetery Boys by Aidan Thomas – I’m actually on the Hear Our Voices blog tour for this!!!! I’m on the 21st of August (which seems ages from now but as July proved, will just woosh by and this book will be out anyway on the first of September. But I am so excited for this, the COVER just LOOK AT IT. Also every time I read the synopsis my interests grows.
OUT: September 1st
Fable by Adrienne Young – I know Young’s other book (Sky in the Deep) is pretty popular (not that I’ve read it ahaha) but this looks really good too! I’m interested about the mysterious island. I also like the main character’s name – it sounds cool. Futhermore, this book likes like it’ll be a fierce and feministic read about a female character who (hopefully) takes no prisoners. Also, PIRATES.
OUT: September 1st
The Summer of Everything by Julian Winters – I will LITERALLY read anything Julian writes absolutely. And also this book involves a bookstore!!! And PINING. I repeat P I N I N G after your BEst FRIEnd.
OUT: September 8th
The Bone Shard Daughter by Andrea Stewart – The magic in this book is BONE SHARD MAGIC??? That sounds absolutely super great. The main character (Lin) decides to learn the forbidden art of bone shard magic like hello, please give this to me now.
OUT: September 10th
To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini – Like listen, okay, I was like the hugest hugest Paolini fan back in high school – like I would browse over the glossary for hours so I could get the pronunciation right of the words (which I could probably remember if given the chance to peek at the glossary.
But like?? the COVER!!! And alien civilisations!!! I’m excited!!! Also this book is like 880 pages so I’m both excited but also extremely highly scared because how do I read large book anymore?
OUT: September 15th
The Silvered Serpents by Roshani Chokshi– I finished The Gilded Wolves maybe two weeks ago? And immediately went onto Pinterest and Tumblr to check for fanart and headcanons – which there AREN’T MANY OF. So I’m very prepared to have my heart broken with this sequel.
OUT: September 22nd
Vampires Never Get Old: Tales With Fresh Bites by Zoraida Córdova – VAMPIRES VAMPIRES. I’m not like the biggest, hugest fan of anthologies but HEY vampires so yes please.
OUT: September 22nd (another one for this day)
Fence: Striking Distance by Sarah Rees Brennan, Johanna The Mad – This got a COVER and this is the first time I’m seeing this?? And I’ll need to take a few moments and then actually READ the comics because like I NEED to. Also just this cover is so beautiful. Will this be all text or will there be illustrations throughout because I’ve read like the first comic and it is GORGEOUS.
OUT: September 29th
