Bookending Autumn 2019 – Braving New Worlds

Saturday 5th October

Braving New Worlds

What horror worlds do you want to brave? Let us know about horror books, movies, podcasts, or video games you’re looking forward to consuming! (Or would only consume if you were that little bit braver)

Wahey, there, readers! Up next is Lauren @ Northern Plunder and today we’re looking at Braving New Worlds! I’ll be talking (mostly) about horror movies ahaha, but also a little about podcasts? Most of the podcasts I listen to are of people watching and then reviewing tv series (that’s like 90% of my podcasts), but I do like branching out. Well, the podcasts are probably just me listing some that I need to get to – there’s so many I have in my library 😭

There probably won’t be any video games, I think I like watching other people play video games more than me – like listen, when I first played Five Nights at Freddy’s with a friend, we actually threw my phone to the other side of the couch 😂😂 But maybe I’ll try playing a few mobile games and come back to you on a bunch I tried out, what do you think?

If you want more horror moves, check out this post, which is me talking about 31 horror movies. Should I be talking about more horror movies?? Of course I should!!

Movies

The Exorcist – this one is most definitely on my list. I’ve a couple of exorcism movies in the past, so I know what to handle, but I do know that this is like the ‘first’ one and wayy more gruesome and violent, so I’m excited to watch it.

Goodnight Mommy – I’ve been wanting to watch this one since the trailer came out (it’s been like 5 years, DB, good one). But this one looks like a super super freaky movie so I am amped for this one. And like I thought the kids were the weird ones, but apparently it’s the mom? So I like that.

In the Tall Grass – This just looks !!!!! ahhh super creepy and I can’t wait!

The Blair Witch Project – I’m a fraudulent lover of horror movies because I have not watched this (neither the old nor new one) but I am making a plan to watch it!

Marianne – I don’t think I really understand this one, but I’d like to watch it.

Podcasts

Everybody’s Dead – I need to listen to all the episodes but I really like it. They talk about a whole bunch of things revolving around the horror theme – and I like that they also talk about horror games; because as I said before – even though I don’t play them, I like to watch other people play them.

Lore – Everytime I look for recs of podcasts, this one is usually in them. But I have not listened to any of them. I plan to rectify that – I think I’ll go through them when I write up my reviews. What interests me is that they talk about true life scary stories – and what’s more scary than real life?

Welcome to Night Vale – I think this is considered a horror podcast? But I do like the whole storytelling aspect and it’s really cool, but also incredibly weird – which is right in my alley (or is it down my alley? I know there’s ‘in the wheelhouse’ – but that’s different)

The Magnus Archives – This is another story-type horror podcast, recommended to me by a friend, and that cover is very cool, which is mostly what drew me to it, I will admit. Like it looks REALLY cool!!

Mobile Games

And by mobile games – I mean that I actually just downloaded these today. I am also looking for a good survival/minecraft type game – for IOS, and free 😁 recs appreciated!!

Last Day on Earth: Survival (Google Play/Apple) – There’s zombies and building a survival base – I’m in.

Slender – I just download a random one off the App Store, but that’s the link to the website. Now, I’ve seen tons of these walkthroughs and plays and I love watching them all, but I don’t know how I’ll be actually playing it haha.

Haunted Manor (Google Play/Apple) – I love horror moves about scary houses so 👌🏻👌🏻

Haunted Manor 2 (Google Play/Apple) – I actually downloaded this first and then realised it’s a sequel ahaha.

Inside (website/Apple) – I don’t think it’s available on Google Play. But I looked at the trailer and decided to not download it – because it featured a kid and I was like “KIDDIE!!! Don’t get into trouble!!! and it showed the kid swimming in open water, so, of course I though sharks and everything. But then I went back and downloaded it.

Haunted Hunt (Google Play/Apple) – I mean, you’re playing a character who shapeshifts into animals (I think just animals) to get away from people trying to hurt you – what more could you want??)

So that’s all of the horror/spooky things I’m interested in getting into!! Have you watched/listened/played any of them? Have any recommendations for me? Chat to me down below in the comments! I love chatting to you all 😁

    1. 😂😂😂😂 yeah as much as I love the horror genre I would die in the first few minutes 😂😂 you know those creepy sounds coming from a room? I’d go investigate, thinking it’s the cat 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

      1. NOPE. Like, huge nope. I don’t even investigate sounds in my own apartment!! I’m like “if someone is here they’ll have to come find me!” And then I be even quieter… 👀

      3. I like to think that in Scream i wouldn’t look out the window. I’d hang up, not answer again, and in between their calls I’d call the police. “Hi, police? There’s a stalker outside my house yelling at me to look outside on the patio. Can you please come over to check that my boyf isn’t tied up and about to have his throat slit? Look out for the creepy kid in the mask. Ya, thanks!”

      4. Like why would you answer a phone from an unknown number?? Especially in our time now 😂 and just lock everything? And make sure your windows have burglar bars on them? American movies are so funny to watch 😂😂

      5. I know!! I grew up on a farm and my parents have those metal roller shutters on every window at ground level, and on most of the ones on the second floor too. We have double locks on all the doors… and when I was home alone the place looked like a fortress!! 😂

      6. 😆😆 like how do these teens sneak out of their houses at night?! My cat squeeze through those bars and of course, spiders 😭😭

  5. Ohh I might need to check some games and movies you picked!

I’ve played slender on my phone and honestly… it isn’t as scary as people on youtube make it seems to be 😂😂 but that maybe be just me ahaha. Also.. let me know what you thought of blair witch project- that’s one we went to see in theaters with mom and it’s not the plot itself I didn’t liked- but the way that goddamn movie is filmed 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️ We aren’t a fan of « fan-made » looking movies where the characters have a videocamera..

    1. It’ll be interesting to see how I feel about Slender. And sometimes I get annoyed with puzzle games – especially if I can’t find what I’m looking for (but I guess that’s what walkthroughs are for 😄) I really like found-footage/’fanmade’ movies, so I want to see how it goes. Will do!

      1. Ah! Well see, you might really enjoy that movie then – ahaha!

Yep im absolutely like that too 😂 I’d give it maybe 5mins to the puzzle and I end up getting frustrated and just look it up ahah (which.. youd think id be better, being a zelda fan ahah)
