Down the TBr Hole #3

I’m linking with a weekly blog meme that allows you to take books off your tbr (because we need this). Lia over at Lost In A Story originally created this so go follow her if you don’t already!

The Rules:

  1. Go to your Goodreads To-Read shelf.
  2. Order on ascending date added.
  3. Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books.
  4. Read the synopses of the books.
  5. Decide: Keep it or should it go?
  6. Repeat every week to gain maximum efficiency (aka to make yourself feel better).

To-read shelf before ‘the purging’: 939

  1. Cut Both Ways by Carrie Mesrobian

Reason why I added it: Well, I added this in 2016, so I actually have no idea, but I’ll try to remember! I think at the time it looked good, or I wanted to add more diverse reads to my tbr.

Verdict: Remove. A whole bunch of the reviews indicate that there’s a lot of issues with the book and the main character and I’m just not here for it

2. When We Collided by Emery Lord

Reason why I added it:  I’ve heard good things about Lord’s books and I think this was back in my contemporary phase.

Verdict: Remove.

3. The Art of Becoming by Susan Alexander

Reason why I added it: I think this is another one I added during my contemporary age. Not that interested anymore…

Verdict: Remove.

4. All American Boy by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely

Reason why I added it: WE NEED MORE BOOKS LIKE THIS! It’s very important to have books like this and with stories like this with these characters, and I think that as time goes on, and as more and more issues arise, these books become more prevalent (and super fantastic).

Verdict: Keep. I need to read this soon.

5. Dark Descendant by Jenna Black

Reason why I added it: Various gods in a book and a main character who’s an immortal huntress? Sounded pretty good to me!

Verdict: Remove. It still looks good, but I’m not too sure how the main character’s a ‘long descendant of Artemis, since Artemis is a maiden goddess; so therefore she’ll (the main character) have to be related to Artemis through another god/goddess – so…

6. Just Visiting by Dahlia Adler

Reason why I added it: I love coming-of-age stories and this one has a female friendship and it looks pretty cute.

Verdict: Keep

7. Not Otherwise Specified by Hannah Moskowitz

Reason why I added it: The synopsis is really intriguing and I’m really interested in the diversity.

Verdict: Keep

8. Play On by Michelle Smith

Reason why I added it: I honestly have no idea why I added this. Like all the things I know about baseball are from Sandlot and High School Musical 2. So if I can’t remember why I actually added it, and the synopsis doesn’t strike me the second time reading it… I guess I’m not really inclined to read it.

Verdict: Remove

9. Glitch by Heather Anastasiu

Reason why I added it: It looked sorta good? The cover was…cool?

Verdict: Remove. I looked at a few reviews and, yeah… better off reading something else.

10. The Realm of Possibility by David Levithan

Reason why I added it: It’s sort of a verse anthology? Which sounds really cool.

Verdict: Keep

To-read shelf after ‘the purging’: 932

Books removed: 6

Books kept: 4

So there’s all my choices. Tell me down below in the comments what you think of them. DId I do good, bad?

And also, what do you think of my new post header and signature? I really wanted to start the year off with something new, and I’m really happy with them! I’m still working out a few kinks here and there, so apologies if it doesn’t look a-okay!

  1. I absolutely adore your signature! This ‘down the tbr hole’ is actually genious, I think I have over 1000 books on my to-read shelf on GoodReads, some of them were shelved in 2014 :’) This might be a great way to thin it out.
As your for your choices; I decided to check out the books you marked as to keep on GoodReads and I’ve added some to my to-read shelf :’) (really excited for #4 actually!!) Not such a good start hahaha

    1. Thank you! I actually had 3 or 4 designs for the signature but purple’s my favourite colour 😁

I loved the idea since I first heard it! Mostly since my tbr shelf is near 1000 books and authors just keep putting out really good books (so unfair 😫)

😂😂YES add to your tbr!!! That’s clearly what it wants! It wants to overpower us 🤔😮

  2. I love Down the TBR posts! (I only do them monthly because I have so many posts I want to do, but I love seeing other people’s updates 😅) I actually don’t think any of these books are on my shelves, but I may have to check out some of the ones you decided to keep – congrats on removing more than half btw, I always struggle with that – FOMO and all 😂

The new header and signature look great!
